| The Grand Haven Tribune reports on this dangerous little event held by one of your wasteful government agencies. Those who know me, know of my encounters with the Michigan Civil Rights Commission while I was Treasurer (and after, snce the Commission shenanigans post-dated passage) of MCRI, the similarly named Initiative. The Commission has decided to have a public "forum" on the line between "hate" and "free" speech. The entire clip: ALLENDALE — The Michigan Civil Rights Commission will host a public forum on hate, free speech and higher education at Grand Valley State University on Monday, March 31. The event will take place in the Cook-Dewitt Center on the Allendale campus at 4 p.m. The commission will hear testimonies and concerns from residents and students regarding the line between hate and free speech on a college campus. The public forum will follow a general meeting of the commission. Both the meeting and forum are open to the public, with opportunities for public comment.
I regret to inform the Commission that there no "line" between hate speech and free speech, and that hateful speech is most often also protected free speech under that pesky old First Amendment to the United States Constitution. You know, the one that each of the Commissioners actually took an oath to uphold. And, and just to verify the paper didn't take the Commission out of context, the Commission's press release is below or here. |
